Jo looked at James 3:13-18, thinking about how wisdom requires getting to a place where we value the humanity of every person.

Andy reflected on James 3:1-12, thinking about the power of our words.

Andy continued our reflections on Spiritual Formation, thinking about how it begins with an understanding of our need for God.

Paul led us in thinking about the final aspect of our vision for Kahaila moving forward – seeking to go deeper in order to grow stronger.

Alex B spoke on James 2:14-26, reflecting on how we live out our faith as a church community.

Adele spoke on James 2:1-13, reflecting on how faith in Christ and loving others is incompatible with partiality and favouritism.

Paul spoke on James 1:19-27, reflecting on how listening to God will impact the way we live.

Andy spoke on James 1:1-18, reflecting on where we turn when we are going through trials or challenges.

Alex W spoke on the parable of the talents. We reflected on the ways in which we are humbly accepting the gifts God has given us and investing into others.

Andy shared his reflections on the parable of the pharisee and the tax collector. We thought about where we might be adopting the posture of the pharisee, looking down on others rather than coming humbly before God and before others.

Alex B reflected on the parable of the good Samaritan. We placed ourselves in different positions in the parable, thinking about how we can build our compassion and where we might find God.

Paul spoke about the parable of the workers in the vineyard. We thought about the difference between fairness and equality and what these things might look like in the Kingdom of God.

Jo shared her reflections on the parable of the lost son. We looked at the father’s radical but also simple love, and the older brother’s response.

Alex B spoke about the parable of the lost coin. We thought about how parables are there to unsettle us and the ways in which we might feel lost.

Alex W reflected on the parable of the lost sheep and how we can read it beyond an individualistic reading. (Apologies – the first half of the recording is missing)

Hannah spoke about the parables of the treasure and the pearl and we reflected on what this Kingdom of God looks like.

Jo spoke about the parables of the mustard seed and yeast and we thought about how we could be active participants in God’s Kingdom.

Dan looked at the parable of the sower and we reflected on the importance of being rooted in Christ.

Andy shared some reflections on the parable of the great banquet as we started our new series thinking about the Kingdom of God.

Paul spoke about Joshua 6, and how it can help us think about how to resolve conflicts.

Andy reflected on Joshua 5, thinking about how we can approach God with reverence and awe, and how we can bless others with our blessings.

Paul reflected on Joshua 4, thinking about how we can remember what God has done for us.

We reflected on the type of church that we are called to be at this time, focusing on being a church welling up in rich generosity.

Andy introduces a simplified version of a way of praying through Scripture that you might find helpful at this time.

Alex W looked at the story of the healing of the man born blind, as told in John 9. We thought about how the man models humility, gratefulness and self-worth, about how his faith outweighs his fear and how he has a purpose. 

Alex B looked at the story of Abraham. We thought about how Abraham was open to God, how God’s people are people on the move, how there are times of silence in Abraham’s life and about the different expressions of God throughout the Abraham story.

Hannah looked at the story of Elijah, focusing on 1 Kings 17 and 18. We thought about how Elijah was open to God because of their close relationship with one another.

We were joined by Beth from Single Friendly Church, who lead us in a conversation thinking about how we can be a more welcoming church and community for single people.

Adele looked at the story of Ruth, focusing on Ruth 2. We reflected on living ‘not too efficiently’ – in making ourselves available with our time, money and energy. We also looked at Ruth as a symbol for loyalty and devotion and reflected on what this meant in terms of our friendships. 

Jo looked at the story of Esther, focusing on Esther 4. We reflected on courage – on what our relationship with fear is, on the choices we have and on the need to support one another.

Paul looked at the story of Gideon in Judges 7 and thought about what it might mean for us when we question God and about when and where we give God the glory.

We looked at Matthew 4:18-22 and thought about what it might look like for us to adopt a posture of open hands in 2020.
